BE A MENTOR

All we ask is thirty minutes a week, and you can make a difference in a child’s life.

A Mentor Is That Person Who Connects to the Heart of a Child and Makes Anything Possible.

The Franklin County Mentor Volunteer Program will direct the child to the opportunities that are provided through the combined efforts of caring volunteers and educators from all areas of Franklin County.

By reaching their full potential, this individual will be an asset to society, a positive role model to others, and a valuable citizen.

MENTORING AS A DROPOUT PREVENTION STRATEGY

Who Needs Mentors?

According to US Census Figures there are 35.2 million kids aged 10-18 in the United States

1 out of 4 children live with only one parent.

1 out of 10 is born to teen parents

1 out of 5 lives in poverty

1 out of 10 will not finish high school

Every child who ends up doing well had at least one stable and committed relationship with a supportive adult.

You need no special skills, only the design to love and willingness to spend time with a young person who will have a brighter future because of YOU. That is what makes a mentor a HERO.

Mentors are a friend who cares; a role model; a listener who cares; a person that helps steer a young person in a positive direction.

Mentors are HEROES and they don’t even know it. As a mentor, you are helping a child grow and develop into a person who can vision big dreams for their future that they might not have achieved.

10 REASONS WHY MENTORING WORKS!

BE Someone Who Matters TO Someone Who Matters

A mentor lets a young person know they are someone who matters.

Mentors help kids stay in school.

Mentors help improve a young person's self-esteem.

Mentors teach young people how to relate and communicate better with others.

Mentors help kids set career goals and take steps to realize them.

Mentors can stress the importance of education, which can lead to a decrease in absences.

Young people with mentors are less likely to be involved in risky behavior.

Mentors can engage teens in safe activities during free time.

A mentor serves as a role model, advocate, friend, and advisor.

A mentor is someone who matters in a young person's life.
